Yet another new endeavor.

On Tuesday I took another class at The Bead Gallery. This time I learned how to do metal stamping.  You can find a hand tutorial right here on YouTube.

One of the nice things about taking the class at the shop was that I had access to all their design stamps. I was able to try all sorts of funky stamps.

I ended up making a pendant.

As you can see, I really did use a lot of their design stamps. We call it “loading up the palette.” :)

I’m in the process of making a necklace for it, but I’m not sure how well that’s working out. We shall see.

I came home with a lot of goodies so I could do my own stamping at home. For my first solo project I decided to make a tiny charm to attach to a bracelet I’ll be giving to my Mom for Mother’s Day.

I had a great vision for the charm. The word would be centered. The little lotus would be right under the “e”.

As you can see, that didn’t happen. So I kinda winged it. Hopefully, it’s still pleasing to the eye.

I had a hard time coming up with a good word for Mom. She’s not a very frivolous woman and simply putting the word “mom” on a charm would be too corny for her. I think  “zen” embodies her whole life philosophy and will be much more appreciated.

This whole new aspect of jewelry making has me really excited and I’m anxiously awaiting more design stamps coming my way.  Only I can see this getting really expensive. I mean dreadfully spendy. You would not believe how much the set of alphabet metal stamps cost me and here I am already lusting for another in a different font.

Tsk tsk.

I’m not the only one excited. Sammy spies something out the window that’s got him all agog.

Happy Thursday, folks! The weekend is right around the corner! :D

  1. Cookie Says:

I really like those. I think the one for your mom is better because the word is not centered. Ya know?

    Kitty! :D

  2. Angie Says:

I love the metal stamping!!!! Gorgeous! I’m with Cookie, the zen looks great—your inner you did good. :D

  3. Chris Says:

I plan on adding metal stamping to my line of jewelry – I love the way it looks and you can do so much with it. Yours are really pretty!

  4. Becky Says:

Oh, metal stamping! That sounds like something I could get into. I love the charm for your mom. The offcentered word makes it just perfect. Or maybe you could have put “HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS” on it. Your mom would love that one! He he.

  5. April Says:

I really like both of your pieces. The off center “Zen” works pretty well and it looks intentional.

    Agog kitties are fun.

  6. spinjenny Says:

If you hadn’t mentioned that the zen wasn’t supposed to be in that position, I wouldn’t have realised that, as it looks fine where it is. I like your stamped pieces, but I know what you mean about getting font lust – I’m like that with rubber alphabet stamps.

  7. Beverly (db81971) Says:

I read that top one as “Sinner Peace” about 10 times before I figured out I’m an idiot!

    I love them!

  8. Sarah Says:

Neat! These are so beautiful, and I would not have guessed that they are the works of someone just starting out with this art.

I’m sure you will love your new tools even though the initial investments sting a bit.
